Food Science Ambassador

Why did you choose your major?

In high school, I participated in the food science CDE through my school’s FFA chapter. This experience highlighted my skills and desire to further my education in food science. I wanted to pursue pre-med, along with having a meaningful major. Therefore, I decided to study at the University of Arkansas, which is among the top universities for food science in the country.

What are you hoping to do with it?

I hope to work in food production, focusing on food fortification. I am pursuing my minor in Japanese in hopes to travel abroad to be able to share the knowledge that I have gained.

How do you stay involved with your department?

I am a member of the food science club and engage in sponsored activities around campus.

What is your favorite class and/or professor?

Dr. Howard’s Intro to Food Science has been my most enjoyable class. His class covers a little bit about everything food science related. Dr. Howard is easy to talk to and is always happy to meet with students outside of class.

How are you an engaged U of A student outside of the classroom?

I am a member of the Razorback Marching Band. I am very involved and passionate about the Japanese program

What is your favorite thing about Bumpers College?

I like how close-knit everyone is. The student-to-faculty ration is very low and allows me to get very close with my professors. I also enjoy that we hold a lot of events that allow you to interact with students outside of your major.

Why did you want to be an ambassador?

I feel that high school students lack the awareness to the full spectrum that is encompassed in the term “agriculture” here at the university. I hope to bring awareness to students about the many different opportunities that the Dale Bumpers college holds. For example, my friend has switched his major to agricultural law after hearing me speak highly of the college and faculty.

What is your advice for an incoming freshman?

Be open minded and attend university events! Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and make new friends.
