Golda Grace Nunneley

Human Environmental Sciences Ambassador
Golda

Why did you choose your major?

I am majoring in Human and Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Apparel Merchandise and Product Development.  My stepmom was an Apparel Merchandise and Product Development student and I valued hearing about her experience in Bumpers. When I initially toured the University of Arkansas it was clear the staff within the School of Human and Environmental Science was devoted to helping their students, which instantly sold me on the program.

What are you hoping to do with it?

I hope to either work with breeder production on a farm, or work in leadership development within the poultry industry, developing curriculum for innovative ideas and leadership/followership.

How do you stay involved with your department?

I have classes with several other poultry science students, and we also hang out in the poultry science undergrad room. We are kept in the loop with activities and events through a large group chat or email. I also see most of my professors throughout the day and we never fail to stop and chat for a few seconds!

What is your favorite class and/or professor?

My favorite class is genetics. I love getting to see characteristics involved in genetic makeup and being able to see the molecular side of it as well. My favorite professor is Dr. Owens. She is always a nice and welcoming professor who truly cares about student success.

How are you an engaged U of A student outside of the classroom?

I am involved in several clubs; Alumni FFA, Sigma Alpha professional agricultural sorority, and AECT Reps.

What is your favorite thing about Bumpers College?

As I’m sure many people will agree with this, but it's the community. I've always been told to be somewhere that welcomes you, no matter what, and I for sure get that in Bumpers College. I can walk into the Poultry Science building and feel welcomed, then walk across the street into AFLS and feel the exact same way.

Why did you want to be an ambassador?

I wanted to express to others the quality education you receive while being in Bumpers College. From internship opportunities to hands on labs, this university truly prepares you for the reality in life.

What is your advice for an incoming freshman?

Don’t wait for the opportunities to be handed to you, go get them yourself. Employers do not look for someone who waits around to be told what to do, they want someone who is willing to reach out without having to explain every little detail and hand it to you.
