COVID-19 Frequenty Asked Questions

Current Students:

Offices are not currently open, but you can still get in touch with us. While transitioning to an online format, adjustments are still being made. If you are having trouble, please ask for help.

Bumpers College’s Student Services Office staff is available to assist you. You can reach us at 479-575-2252 or aflsdean@uark.edu with questions or concerns regarding graduation, advising, majors and minors, scholarships, etc.

Can I still complete my internship or co-op this summer and do I need special permission?

You may complete your internship/externship if it is required or used for your degree program. There will be no on-campus, face-to-face component during the summer; any campus component will be conducted remotely. It is approved if the placement organization is willing to accept students, and social distancing regulations are strictly followed by students in locations of the placement organization. In addition to your departmental/college internship paperwork, the COVID19 Safety for Employers and Interns form needs to be signed by you and your internship supervisor to ensure your health and safety.

Do I have access to a computer lab?

Some labs will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday, March 20, through March 29, the end of spring break. Information on open labs will be added here: https://health.uark.edu/coronavirus/.

What if I need a computer to access online classes?

Remote Lab Virtual Desktop allows access to many computer lab resources.

How do I get technical support?

Student can get assistance with tech issues through the Student Tech Center Help Desk. Visit the help desk at the Union, call or reach them online (479-575-8602, stc@uark.edu).

Additional help can be found through the U of A’s IT Services Automated Help Portal.

Is there library access?

Remote access to library and research resources is available, and students can use a 24/7 chat service through the library website.

What do I do if I have not heard from a professor regarding online classes/requirements?

If you have not heard from a professor for one of your classes regarding online requirements, please contact Student Services at the phone number or email above.

What do I do about advising?

Currently enrolled students should contact their advisor. The major advisor will work with students to accommodate their needs on an individual basis. If you have trouble reaching your advisor, contact our Student Services Office at the number or email listed above.

What if I have trouble accessing/connecting to my online classes?

Contact Student IT Support at 479-575-HELP (4357).

Are tutoring and other U of A services available?

Online tutoring began Monday, March 16, along with supplemental instruction, writing support and academic coaching.

How will we take finals?

Finals will be given online.

Are on-campus events canceled?

On-campus events are cancelled until further notice. There is a list of known campus-wide events and their latest status.

What is the status of commencement?

A decisions has not yet been made regarding commencement. We will update this post as information becomes available.

What if I’m not feeling well?

The Pat Walker Health Center on campus is not accepting walk-in patients or online appointment scheduling, but visit their website for a list of numbers to call to make an appointment.

Can I schedule a college and/or campus tour?

Unfortunately, the university is not scheduling or conducting tours at this time. When that changes, we will post that update here.

What is the status of summer orientation?

At this point, nothing has been determined regarding summer orientation. We will update this post as more information becomes available.

Can I talk to someone about declaring a major?

Of course, you can reach us at the phone number and/or email above. Our programs include majors related to biology, chemistry, health, food, business, education, technology, apparel merchandising and more. 

What do I do about advising?

The U of A Admissions Office has suspended campus visits for the remainder of the semester. Transfer students should contact our Student Services Office at the phone number and email above to be connected with the appropriate major advisor. If a phone/email advising session is needed, the major advisor will work with students to accommodate their needs on an individual basis.

What programs and majors do you offer?

Do you offer any scholarships?

We provide a tremendous amount of scholarships to our students. This past award season (2019-20), the college awarded $800,000 to Bumpers College students and over 75 percent of the applicants received at least one scholarship. The average scholarship award was for $1,500.

Are there any clubs for students?

You bet. We sponsor more than 20 clubs and organizations with at least one option for each of our majors.

Is there an honors program?

Our honors program allows students to work closely with faculty mentors and to conduct meaningful research.
