Q & A with Dewayne Goldmon

Why agronomy?

My original plan was to prepare myself for a farming career. That was later modified to be able to teach and do agricultural research, which was again modified to do research and development work in the agricultural chemical and seed industry.

What do you enjoy most about your job/career?

The interaction with our grower customers.

Something others may be surprised to learn about your field?

It’s a wide open area that involves a lot more than just “farming.”

Why do you serve Bumpers College through the DPC?

I think it’s a great way to help current students while getting updates on current trends in agriculture from the UA’s perspective. Another surprising benefit has been the connectivity with other ag industry professionals.

Something industry leaders and hiring managers should know about Bumpers College students?

Regardless of your background, it can well prepare you for a successful career in agriculture.

Something you and the DPC have accomplished you are proud of?

The travel around the state (i.e. the rotating “town halls”) to promote opportunities in the college were valuable.

If not in your current field, what might you be doing?

I’d be a full-time farmer.

Hobbies?

Traveling and sports.
