Approximately 237 undergraduate degree candidates were part of one of the largest Bumpers College Commencement audiences ever, estimated at about 3,000 in the Randal Tyson Track Center on May 9.

Teddy E. Morelock, 65, university professor of horticulture, died April 18 at his home in Fayetteville.
- Joseph N. Beasley: 1924-2009
Professor Emeritus Joseph Noble Beasley, 85, of Farmington died Thursday, May 14, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Outstanding seniors and graduate students named by each academic department in Bumpers College.

A team of undergraduates in the hospitality and restaurant management program won the Best Paper Award at a symposium.

John Marcy, recently named a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists, conducted a culinary course for Tyson product developers.
- Kuenzel wins John Imhoff Outstanding Research Publication Award
Wayne Kuenzel received the John Imhoff Outstanding Research Publication Award by the University of Arkansas Chapter of Sigma Xi.
- Jennie Popp receives Faculty Gold Medal Award
Jennie Popp is one of seven faculty members awarded the Office of Post-Graduate Fellowships Departmental Gold Medal Award for outstanding support for students competing for nationally competitive awards.

Vijay Durairaj received a first place award at the 2009 Southern Conference on Avian Diseases meeting.

John Snider won a first place award and Komal Singh Rasaputra placed in separate categories for graduate student competitions at the Arkansas Academy of Science meeting in March.

Cesar Coto was a member of a team that developed a plan that won first place and $20,000 in the Wal-Mart Better Living Business Plan Challenge.

Two Division of Agriculture publication projects were selected for Silver Awards (second place) to be presented at the national meeting of the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences.

Craig Roberts, MS ’82 PhD ’85, professor of plant sciences and extension forage specialist at the University of Missouri, was presented the 2009 Outstanding Alumnus Award at the Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences awards banquet.

Kevin Henry, BS ’99, and Carl Peters, BS ’59 MS ’62, were inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

A Division of Agriculture project to convert used cooking oil to biodiesel was on display as an Earth Day exhibit April 21 and 22. Entomology students had a booth at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks.
