- Student awards to be presented at Honors Banquet
Student awards to be presented at the Bumpers College Honors and Awards Banquet April 16 in the Alltel Ballroom in the Arkansas Union include the following.
- Ginger L. Graham named Outstanding Alumnus
The Bumpers College 2009 Outstanding Alumnus Award will be presented to Ginger L. Graham, BSA ’79, at Commencement May 9 in the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center.
- Former ARS national program leader to head Plant Pathology
A. Rick Bennett joined the Bumpers College and Division of Agriculture faculty March 30 as professor and head of the Department of Plant Pathology.
- Archie Flanders is Ohlendorf Professor at NEREC
Archie Flanders has joined the Division of Agriculture faculty as an assistant professor of agricultural economics and agribusiness and holder of the Harold F. Ohlendorf Professorship at the Northeast Research and Extension Center in Keiser.

Gamma Sigma Delta presented awards and scholarships at its spring ceremony March 24. Recipients were announced for the different categories
- Plant pathology alumnus speaks at Templeton Lecture Series
W. Douglas Gubler, MS ’74, professor and extension plant pathologist at the University of California, Davis, was the 2009 Templeton Lecture Series speaker March 10-11.
- Morris inducted into Agriculture Hall of Fame
Distinguished Professor of Food Science Justin Morris, director of the Division of Agriculture's Institute of Food Science and Engineering, was inducted into the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame March 13 at the annual induction luncheon at Little Rock.
- Biological Engineering Institutes induct Verma as Fellow
Lalit Verma, Bumpers College interim dean, was inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Biological Engineering (IBE) at the institute’s annual meeting March 19-21 in Santa Clara, Calif, as a Fellow of the (AIMBE) Feb. 12 in Washington, D.C.

A Forestry and Livestock Field Day at the Livestock and Forestry Research Station near Batesville on Tuesday, April 21 and a Beef and Forage Field day at the Southeast Research and Extension Center at Monticello on April 30.
- Ashley Jones attends USDA Agricultural Outlook Forum
Ashley Jones, an Agricultural Business major, was one of 18 students nation-wide selected to attend the 2009 USDA Agricultural Outlook Forum in Crystal City, Va. Her selection was based in part on her essay about agriculture as a career.

Jason Norsworthy was honored with the "Outstanding Young Weed Scientist" award by the Southern Weed Science Society

The apparel studies program is participating in the annual University Women’s Club fashion show April 22 and an exhibit of student-designed clothing starting April 20.
- SAEA Quiz Bowl tests students’ knowledge
Agricultural economics and agribusiness students from the Monticello and Fayetteville campuses participated in the 2009 Quiz Bowl competition in Atlanta in March during meetings of the Southern Agricultural Economics Association.
