3. Lim Honored by Soybean Disease Workers
Sung M. Lim, professor and head of the department of plant pathology, received the Distinguished Service Award at the 35th annual meeting of the Southern Soybean Disease Workers in Pensacola Beach March 12-13. This is the highest award granted by the 14 state SSDW and is presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves over a long period in the area of soybean disease research and education.
Lim has been department head for 17 years. His research on the epidemiology of brown spot, bacterial blight and bacterial pustule of soybeans, the genetics of resistance to soybean diseases, control of soybean mosaic virus, downy mildew and sudden death syndrome (SDS), and integrated soybean pest management helped define the economic importance of soybean diseases and provided methods by which they could be managed most efficiently and economically.

5. More Scholarship Opportunities
Did you know that as a potential or current University of Arkansas student you may be eligible for scholarships through the University and other affiliated agencies? Be sure to review the Separate Applications at http://bumperscollege.uark.edu/39.htm and the Office of Academic Scholarships Website at http://scholarships.uark.edu/index.php/home/default for more information. These scholarships require separate applications, and the Bumpers Scholarship Application does NOT make you eligible for these awards. Deadlines range from February 1, 2008, through April 15, 2008. Many of these awards have little competition because students overlook their availability, so it is to your advantage to apply.
