Foundation gift designated for poultry science recruiting

POULTRY SCIENCE SUPPORT -- Monty Henderson (second from left), president and COO of George's Inc., and a Harold E. Ford Foundation board member, presents a check for $22,854 to Walter Bottje, poultry science department head, flanked by industry and academia members Marvin Childers (from left) president of the The Poultry Federation, John Ward (back) vice president of The Poultry Federation, John Bryan, director of The Poultry Federation and Jason Emmert, assistant professor and undergraduate curriculum coordinator.

The Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association Harold E. Ford Foundation recently presented a check for $22,854 to the poultry science department.

The foundation, named for a former executive with the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, promotes advancement of the poultry industry through education and training. Depatment Head Walter Bottje said the gift will help support recruiting efforts such as the annual Poultry Science Youth Conference, the youth broiler show at the Arkansas State Fair and in-service training for faculty.

The foundation has given more than $147,000 to the department over the past eight years, Bottje said. The foundation was founded in 1995 and has given over $1 million dollars to poultry science departments across the nation.

"The support the Harold E. Ford Foundation provides for our department is outstanding," Bottje said. "We're so thankful for their generosity and foresight. This gift will impact our students as well as the future of the poultry industry."
