The Bumpers College Class of 2006 is one of the largest in recent years, with 245 graduates who completed bachelor’s degree requirements in May 2006 and in August and December of 2005.

More than 2,000 persons attended Bumpers College commencement exercises May 13 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center where 187 graduates crossed the stage to receive a diploma cover (the diploma’s in the mail) from Dean Greg Weidemann.

Ninety-nine received M.S. degrees and 33 received Ph.D. degrees (names are listed below) for completing a course of study and research under the direction of Bumpers College faculty members.

Honors Program graduates, from left, Clayton Bell, Tyler Davs, Melanie Doyal and Dawn Elkins watch their classmates cross the commencement stage.   The Class of 2006 applauds the faculty.

Senior Scholar Tory Hodges of Alpena delivered the commencement address, and Don McCaskill, BSA ’70 MS ’73, was honored as Outstanding Alumnus. See the 2006 Commencement Brochure (PDF) for profiles of award recipients and the list of graduates who participated in commencement.

A Bodenhamer Fellow, Hodges was an agricultural business major with a minor in political science. She will attend Vanderbilt University Law School in the fall. She also received the John W. White Outstanding Student Award and was one of 12 Honors Program Distinguished Graduates.

The Whitaker Center was filled with family and friends of graduates.

McCaskill is vice president for research at Riceland Foods in Stuttgart. As director of Riceland’s applied process and product development program, he has had a major impact on enhancing the value of Arkansas crops by further processing while also creating jobs and expanding payrolls in rural Arkansas.
