More than 2,000 persons attended Commencement ceremonies May 14 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center for the Bumpers College Class of 2005. The class includes 229 graduates or candidates for bachelor’s degrees, 119 who received master’s degrees and 25 who received doctoral degrees awarded after the summer and fall semesters in 2004 and spring 2005. Ewell Welch, Executive Vice President of Arkansas Farm Bureau, was named Outstanding Alumnus for 2005. Megan Hardy, a First Rank Senior Scholar and the granddaughter of Dean Emeritus Glenn Hardy, presented the commencement address. Greatest Distance Traveled Four families traveled from other countries to attend Bumpers College Commencement ceremonies May 14. Pablo Moreno and Loreno Limpias, the parents of Lorena Morena, an Environmental, Soil, and Water Science major, came from Bolivia. Vasanta and Doreen Welihindha, the parents of Shehan Welihinda, a cum laude graduate whose major was Foods, Human Nutrition and Hospitality, came from Sri Lanka. Rheinhart and Angelika Graf, the parents of Johannes Graf, an Agricultural Business major, came from Munich, Germany. The mother, Agnes Suratman, and brother, Markus Wibisono, of Anastasia Cecilia, a Human Development and Family Sciences major, came from Indonesia. Diplomas Presented Posthumously The Faculty Senate passed a resolution to recognize those undergraduate students who tragically passed away while enrolled in the University. Beginning this year all deceased students will be recognized at commencement and will receive posthumously the degree of Bachelor of Science and Arts in University Studies. Their names will be inscribed on senior walk as part of the Class of 2005. Diplomas were presented to the family members pictured below.
