OFPA presents Food Science scholarships

 
Food Science students on hand to receive scholarships during the Ozark Food Processors Association Annual Convention were, from left, Alicia Yancey, Kenneth Over, Lydia Rice, Jerry Dickson, Suzanne Elser, Brittany Adams, Ben Beckham, h'Elena Pleasant, and Emily Bennet.  

The Ozark Food Processors Association presented scholarships to 13 University of Arkansas food science students during the 100th OFPA Convention and Exposition March 28.

Scholarships from the Institute of Food Technologists were also announced during a banquet.

The OFPA annually awards about 10 scholarships for $1,500 and a number of other memorial scholarships to U of A students majoring in food science, said Donna Graham, associate dean of academics for Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

Graham said the association has awarded 423 scholarships since the scholarship fund was created.

Freshman recipients and their scholarships are: Ben Beckham of Bentonville, OFPA scholarship; h’Elena Pleasant of Sherwood, OFPA scholarship; Jordyn Raney of Jay, Okla., OFPA scholarship; and Ashley Reeves of Lincoln, OFPA scholarship.

Sophomore recipients are: James Ward of Fayetteville, OFPA scholarship; and Josh Tubbs of Sherwood, OFPA and Joe and Gretchen Steele scholarships.

Junior recipients are: Ryan O’Kelley of Fayetteville, OFPA scholarship; Lydia Rice of Joplin, Mo., Jerry Dickson and IFT scholarships; and Marianne Rice of Conway, Roy and Carolyn Sharp scholarship.

Senior recipients are: Emily Bennett of Tulsa, Okla., Kattan and Carolyn S.Q. Sharp scholarships; Suzanne Elser of Fayetteville, OFPA scholarship; Kenneth Over of Fayetteville, OFPA scholarship; and Alicia Yancey of Prairie Grove, OFPA scholarship.
