Honors Convocation is April 20: Faculty, staff and students are encourage to attend Honors Convocation at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 20 in the Arkansas Union Theatre. Student, Faculty and staff award recipients listed.

2006 Outstanding Alumnus is Don McCaskill, BSA ’70 MS ’73, Riceland Foods Vice President for Research.

Outstanding seniors and grad students named by department faculty.

Organic garden plots available at AAREC: Students, staff and faculty preach and practice organic and sustainable gardening.

First Web-based degree program well received: The first Web-based degree program offered by Bumpers College gets enthusiastic reception.

300 attend 2nd Women in Agriculture Conference: Some 300 women attend second Arkansas Women in Agriculture Conference in Hot Springs in March.

Dr. C.E. Caviness — 1923-2006: Charles Ellis “Chuck” Caviness, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, died March 1 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Marie Lavallard — 1912-2006: Marie Louise Froehlich Lavallard of Fayetteville, retired head of the former Department of Agricultural Publications, died April 3, 2006 at her home in Butterfield Trail Village.

GSD Initiation and Awards Banquet April 13: The 52nd Annual Initiation and Awards Banquet for the University of Arkansas chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta will be Thursday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center.

GSD Student Research Competition winners: The UA chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, The Honor Society of Agriculture, announces winners of 2006 Student Research Presentation Competition.

Association supports Poultry Science recruiting: The Department of Poultry Science receives $16,551 from the Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association’s Harold E. Ford Foundation.

Fultons Endow Animal Science Award: Ann Fulton of Springdale and the late Dr. Richard “Dick” Fulton, D.V.M., provide $11,968 to establish the Dr. Richard and Ann Fulton Endowed Award to recognize outstanding academic performance in Animal Science.

Animal Science Awards. Animal Science students, alumni and a Friend of the Department were honored at an April 6 awards program.

Horse Festival. Proceeds benefit Equine Program.

BAEG shares in environmental design award: Faculty and students in Biological and Agricultural Engineering were members of a team that received the prestigious EDRA/Places Award (for  planning) that recognizes professional and scholarly excellence in environmental design for the “Habitat Trails” project in Rogers.

Food Science team wins College Bowl regional: Advances to national contest.

Students develop new food products: Energy drink that avoids “sugar rush” wins OFPA Food and Beverage Innovations competition.

HESC Student Awards presented at April 4 awards program.

Division helps host Ozark Food Processors: New Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture is keynote speaker at OFPA Centennial convention.

OFPA presents scholarships to 13 Food Science majors.
