Food Science students win OFPA competition

 
First Place — Food Science graduate students Devon Cameron, left, and Tiffany Hager talk about their winning entry in the First Annual Food and Beverage Innovations Competition during the 2005 Ozark Food Processors Association Convention in Springdale in March. They and teammate Nora Watson developed "Spuntino Pasta Chips," made of semolina wheat flour and flavored with a variety of Italian seasonings.  

Four teams of Food Science students made a clean sweep of awards at the 2005 Ozark Food Processors Association's First Annual Food and Beverage Innovations Competition.

The Delicious New Treats Team received first place and a $1,500 cash prize. Team members included Tiffany Hager (Ph.D. candidate), Devon Cameron (MS candidate) and Nora Watson (MS candidate).

The Smart Sweets Team received second place and a $1,000 cash prize. Team members included Noy Phoumivong (undergraduate student) and James Smith (undergraduate student).

The FlavEdge Team received third place and a $500 cash prize. Team members included Enzo Giannoccarro (MS candidate), Fernanda Onofre (MS candidate), Vishal Jain (MS candidate), Ashlee Webber (MS candidate) and Daniel Webber (MS candidate).

The PhytoRels team received fourth place a $250 cash prize. Team members included Morela Barreto (Ph.D. candidate) and Earsie de Feliz (Ph.D. candidate).
