Communications projects win national awards

A coveted Gold Award in the category of writing for magazines was presented to Fred Miller, AGCS, at the national meeting of the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences in Albuquerque June 18. The award was for Miller's article, "Women in Agriculture," in the Fall-Winter issue of the Arkansas Land and Life magazine published by the Division of Agriculture.

A brochure/poster about the history of the many Agricultural Experiment Station units in the Division of Agriculture garnered silver and bronze awards. Judy Howard and Howell Medders received a Silver Award for the project in the promotional publications class of the publishing category. Howard received a Bronze Award for her illustration featured on the poster/brochure in the graphic design category.

Communication projects by AGCS staff members and colleagues received five awards at the recent meeting of the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association, as follows.

1st Place in the Event Program category. "Poultry Science Youth Conference," by Karen Eskew, Jason Emmert, Gary Davis and Casey Owens.

1st Place in the Event & Promotional Materials category. "Avian Idol Broiler Show T-Shirts," by Karen Eskew.

1st Place in the Print Media / Strategic Plan category -."Economic Impact of Arkansas Agriculture" brochure, by Judy Howard, Howell Medders, Jennie Popp and Fred Miller.

2nd Place in the Print Media / Annual Report category. "Differentiation - setting ourselves apart" Center of Excellence for Poultry Science Annual Report, by Karen Eskew.

3rd Place in the Print Media / 4-color newsletter category. "The Graduate" alumni magazine, Howell Medders, Judy Howard, Fred Miller, Karen Eskew, Ashley Harris and Kellie Knight.
