Donald R. Herring retired, effective June 30, as head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education, and a reception in his honor was held June 27 in the Human Environmental Sciences Living Room. George Wardlow is serving as interim department head.
Herring's accomplishments during his 10 years at UA and 27 years at Texas A&M were listed by Vice President for Agriculture Milo Shult, Experiment Station Director Mark Cochran, Dean Greg Weidemann and Associate Dean Donna Graham, who is also a member of the AEED faculty.
Herring was recently elected a Fellow by the American Association of Agricultural Education, which he had served in many capacities, including president and southern region vice president.
As department head, he provided leadership for the faculty to restructure the curriculum, and he was active in recruiting students to increase enrollment in the Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology major.
Herring has B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas A&M and a Ph.D. (1969) from The Ohio State University.
