Trail Dedication Highlights Environmental Project

A one-mile segment of the Blossom Way Recreational Trail in Rogers was dedicated July 20 at a ceremony that recognized the contributions of Division of Agriculture faculty and students from the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

The trail was constructed along a section of Blossom Way Creek that was restored to a more natural state as a part of a grant from the Arkansas Soil and Conservation Commission and the U.S. E.P.A. to the City of Rogers, Rogers Public Schools, the Arkansas Water Research Center, Rogers Water Utilities, and the Biological Engineering Department and the Division of Agriculture. Total federal funding for the project is $490,000 which is matched by $378,000 of local money or in-kind services by the project participants.

The trail is open daily from dawn to dusk.  No motorized vehicles are allowed, but the trail is ideal for walkers, runners, strollers, bicycles, rollerblades and other recreational activities.

Participants from BAEG were faculty members Marty Matlock and Tom Costello; senior design students Leslie Bartsch, Jennifer Raible, Britt Hill and Adam Jokerst; and graduate student Vicky Zeledon.
