Beef Producer Events Set for August

Two major events for beef cattle producers are set for August. The annual Cattle Grower’s Conference in Arkadelphia on Aug. 8, hosted by the Southwest Research and Extension Center at Hope, and a Beef Cattle Marketing symposium on Aug. 15 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena in Fayetteville.

The Cattle Grower’s Conference on Aug. 8 in Arkadelphia is for industry leaders and progressive producers throughout the Southwest, Midwest and Mid-South. Faculty at the Southwest Research and Extension Center (SWREC) at Hope and the Division’s Department of Animal Science coordinate the program.

The Department of Animal Science is hosting a half-day symposium on Beef Cattle Marketing - Globally, Nationally and Locally. The program will begin at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m., Aug. 15, at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena. The registration fee, payable at the door, is $50.

The program will include two nationally known speakers:

-- Marc Vanacht, AG Business Consultants. His presentation is "The Agricultural System - Is it Collapsing?”

-- Marcine Moldenhauer, strategic supply manager for Cargill Meat, will talk about age and source verification from an industry perspective. In addition, she will address possible verification programs of the future.

Three Arkansas beef cattle producers will make up a producer panel. John Paul Pendergrass (stocker cattle), Lawson Hembree (purebred cattle) and David Miller (commercial cow-calf) will address how marketing strategies have changed for them and what they see coming down the road for marketing cattle in their respective areas of the business.
