Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture A newsletter for faculty, staff and students July-August 2005 Vol. 31, No. 4 Basin Park Hotel hosts resort management course Six students completed the first class in the new resort management course in the Hospitality and Restaurant Management Program this summer. The students spent three weeks living and attending classes in the historic Basin Park Hotel in Eureka Springs. Instructor Allen Powell said the purpose of a resident course was to encourage the students to think like managers. The students were Amber Warman, Madeline Archer, Lacey Beauchamp, Janet Morgan, James Harrison and Lyndi Modica. The course was a project sponsored by the Eureka Springs Students Engaged in Economic Development (SEED) Center, in cooperation with the UA Economic Development Institute. Powell said he hopes the experience will lead to internships in Eureka Springs for students. The course feature 16 guest speakers, including Jack Moyner, general manager of the Basin and Crescent hotels. Powell is working on combining resources with schools in other states to offer similar courses such as one on cruise line management or an Arkansas tourism course in which students would travel the state. |
