GSD celebrates 50th anniversary
The 50th anniversary of the charter of the University of Arkansas Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, was observed by current and emeritus faculty and staff who attended a 50th Anniversary Reception June 26 in the Fayetteville Radisson Ballroom. The reception was the opening event for the GSD International Conclave June 26-29 hosted by the UA chapter.
International officers and delegates from other states attended the conclave. GSD International President John Hillison of Virginia Tech presented a 50th anniversary plaque to Chapter President Carl Griffis. The Chapter presented a commemorative engraved bowl and coasters to Associate Dean Donna Graham.
Conclave committee members in addition to Griffis were Navam Hettiarachchy (chairwoman), Beth Kegley, Karen Eskew, Mary Warnock, Phil Crandall, Howell Medders and David Longer.

Marie Lavallard, retired head of Agricultural Publications (now Agricultural Communication Services) spoke on the history of the UA chapter of GSD at the 50th Anniversary reception June 26. Inducted into GSD in 1955, she is a former chapter president and historian and a former GSD International historian. |
