Richard Cartwright, extension plant pathologist and state extension leader for Pest Management, was presented the award for Outstanding Plant Pathologist of the Southern Division of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) for 2007. The award was presented at the annual meeting of the APS Southern Division held in conjunction with the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists meeting in Mobile Feb. 4-5.
Dr. Cartwright conducts research and extension programs on row crop plant disease management, including an extensive disease-monitoring program for early warning of disease development in Arkansas.
Dr. Cartwright is a co-leader of the multi-state RiceCAP project, "A coordinated research, education, and extension project for the application of genomics discoveries to improve rice in the United States." His rice research includes on-farm variety testing, disease monitoring, cultivar evaluation, fertilization-disease interactions, and fungicide evaluation.
