A drop-in reception for Dean Greg Weidemann and his wife, Rozanne, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, May 12, in Boyer Hall, Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House. Provost Bob Smith will make remarks at 5 p.m.
Dean Weidemann has accepted a position as dean and director of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut, effective June 30. He will assume administrative leadership for teaching, research and extension programs in a unified organizational structure.
A watch, plaque and framed proclamation from the Bumpers College Faculty Council were presented to Dean Weidemann by Faculty Council Chairman Dick Oliver at the spring faculty meeting May 2 in Hembree Auditorium in the AFLS Building.
Weideman joined the UA department of plant pathology in 1983. He was named associate director of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station and associate dean of Bumpers College in 1995 and was appointed dean and Division of Agriculture associate vice president for research in January 2002. When a separate position was created for associate vice president for research in August 2007, Weidemann's appointment was changed to dean of Bumpers College and associate vice president for academic programs of the Division of Agriculture.

2. Byproducts Feed Barn Dedication May 14
A dedication of the Byproduct Feeds Research and Demonstration Barn at Southwest Research and Extension Center at Hope is set for 12 noon, May 14. The new facility was designed for storage, processing and research with agricultural byproducts used as livestock feed ingredients and other conventional and alternative feedstuff.
Following a welcome by Vice President for Agriculture Milo Shult, remarks will be made by local beef cattle producers Ned Ray Purtle and Warren Plyler and by Victor Ford, SWREC director, and Keith Lusby, animal science department head.
The building was made possible by the support of the following donors. AgHeritage FCS, Anthony Wood Treating, Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation, Bancorp South, Clark County Farm Bureau, Clear Lake Farm, CMC Steel Products, Diamond State Bank, FCS of Western Arkansas, First National Bank, Hempstead County Farm Bureau, Hope Concrete Products, Lafayette County Farm Bureau, Nevada County Farm Bureau, Ned Ray Purtle, Southwest Arkansas Equipment Co., and Summit Bank.

3. Tyson Food Policy Chair Candidate to Present Seminar May 15
All are invited to attend a seminar by a candidate for the Tyson Chair in Food Policy position in the department of agricultural economics and agribusiness. Rudy Nayga of Texas A & M University will present a seminar on "Nutrition and Health: Policies and Economic Research Challenges" on Thursday, May 15, at 11:30 a.m. in AGRI 115.

4. President's Council Presents Service Award to Elena Garcia
The President's Council on Service and Civic Participation selected Elena Garcia, a fruits specialist in the horticulture department, to receive the 2008 President's Volunteer Service Award. This award is issued on behalf of the President of the United States to recognize and encourage volunteer service.
Garcia was nominated for the award as a participant in Winrock International's John Ogonowski Farmer-to-Farmer Program, which fields approximately 350 volunteers each year to assist farmers, agribusinesses, and local nonprofit organizations worldwide. John Ogonowski was the pilot of American Airlines Flight 11 that crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001. For more information, visit www.winrock.org.
