1. Renewable Energy Conference - Monday

The College of Engineering and the Division of Agriculture will host the Conference for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on the campus of the University of Arkansas. All events are free and open to the public. 

The morning session will begin at 10 a.m. This session will feature special guests Robert Noun, executive director, external affairs of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Robert Ames, director of development at Tyson Foods; and Chris Benson, director of the Arkansas Energy Office.

The afternoon session will begin at 12:30 p.m. This session will feature special guests Charles Zimmerman, vice president of prototype and new format development at Wal-Mart; and Tom Vander Ark, president of the X-Prize Foundation.

The conference will include a Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Expo that will feature displays and interactive exhibits highlighting ways residents and business owners can save energy and money. The expo will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21.

This event is being held in cooperation with U.S. Rep. John Boozman, congressman for the 3rd district in Arkansas.

2. Bumpers College Awards and Honors Presented at Banquet

Dean Greg Weidemann, Associate Dean Donna Graham and Bumpers College Alumni Society president Ron Rainey presented awards recognizing accomplishments of students and faculty during an Awards and Honors Banquet Thursday, April 17, in the Arkansas Union's Alltel Ballroom.

3. CSES Seminar - Monday

Jeremy Bullington will present "Integrated Management of Red Rice (Oryza sativa) in Rice and Soybean" at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, in PTSC 009.

4. Food Science Seminar - Monday

George Ondier, FDSC M.S. student, will present "Low Temperature, Low Relative Humidity Drying of Rough Rice" and Dinara Tortayeva, FDSC M.S. student, will present "Effect of Germination on the Nutritional Quality of Long Grain Rice" at 3:40 p.m. Monday, April 21, in room D-2 in the Food Science building. 5. SEREC Field Day to Focus on Beef and Forage - Thursday

Division of Agriculture research and extension programs in beef production and forage crops will be featured in a Field Day Thursday at the Southeast Research and Extension Center in Monticello. 6. Economist to Lecture on Bio-Energy - Thursday

Dr. Chad Hart, an economist from Iowa State University, will present a lecture at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in Plant Science 009 that will examine the impact bio-energy has on agriculture and the economy as a whole and how bio-energy is changing the American economy. Its impacts, including fluctuating commodity, gas, and food prices, will affect nearly everyone in the U.S. An informal reception will follow the presentation. 7. Water Resources Research Conference - April 22-23

The Arkansas Water Resources Center Annual Research Conference will be April 22 and 23, featuring sessions on nutrient loads and water quality in Arkansas streams, aquatic conservation through the State Wildlife Grants Program, and research presentations by new water science faculty.
