1.Johnson Selected for IPM Award. Dr. Donn T. Johnson, a professor in the Department of Entomology, is the Southeastern Branch winner and nominee for the national Entomology of America Society Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management. This award will be presented at the Southeastern Branch meeting in March 2007 in Knoxville, TN.
2. Academic Enhancement Workshop, Next Tuesday. Academic Enhancement Program presents the final workshop of the Fall 2006 semester on November 28th, titled "End of the Semester Wrap-Up : How am I doing?" This last workshop will discuss improving self-management skills. These skills include drive strength, commitment strength, time management and making a positive change. The workshop will be held from 12:30 to 1:20p.m. in HOEC 106. This is a great opportunity to gain some valuable tools to help further your success in college.
3. Free 'Food and Health' EU Graduate Course. There is an opportunity for three University of Arkansas graduate students to participate in a free 2-week graduate course entitled "Food and Health," February 18 - March 3, 2007, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. All living expenses and teaching materials will be paid by the course organizers. Students will have to pay for round-trip travel to Romania. The course is funded by the European Union commission and organized by the University of Gent, Belgium. For information regarding registration, interested students should contact Dr. Andy Proctor, Department of Food Science (575-2980, aproctor@uark.edu).
4. Apple Butter Sale. The Food Science club is selling apple butter made by students, faculty and staff -- $3 per jar or a case of 12 for $30 -- at the Food Science Department office, 2650 N. Young Ave.
5. Santa's Sack Drive. The Bumpers College Ambassadors are sponsoring a college-wide Santa's Sack Drive to benefit the Peace at Home Shelter. Items to be donated include new children's holiday gifts and new gifts for the children to give to their mothers. They include, but are not limited to: toys, movies, CDs, lotion, perfume, clothing, gloves, hats, scarves or anything you would give a child or your mother for the holidays. The drive will be from Nov. 20- Dec. 1. The department with the most items will receive a pizza party. Boxes will be placed at each department for donation collection.
