1. Kepler Spacecraft Presentation, Thursday. NASA astronaut Dr. Janice Voss will give a presentation on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Poultry Science auditorium about the Kepler Spacecraft that is scheduled for launch in November 2008 on a four-year quest for habitable planets around distant stars. Dr. Voss has logged five space flights and is science director for the Kepler Spacecraft. Her lecture is sponsored by the Arkansas Women in Statistics and Mathematics, the Arkansas chapter of the Association for Women in Sciences and the Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences. The lecture is open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

2. Parent Education Speaker, Friday. Judi Singleton with Family Network, a non-profit organization for in-home parenting education, support for at-risk teens, and families expecting their first child, will be guest speaker at the Northwest Arkansas Family and Children Organization meeting, Friday, Nov. 17, 9:30 am in the HOEC Living Room.

3. Horse and Tack Auction, Saturday. UA equine students are conducting the 6th annual "Razorback Roundup" horse and tack auction Nov. 18 at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center. Proceeds will benefit the equine program. For details see the complete on-line catalog at www.RazorbackRoundup.org. The sale day schedule is as follows. 4-5 p.m., tack auction and horses available for inspection. 5-8 p.m., dinner available. 5-6 p.m. student presentation of sale horses. 7-8:30 p.m., horse auction.

4. Apple Butter Sale. The Food Science club is selling apple butter made by students, faculty and staff -- $3 per jar or a case of 12 for $30 -- at the Food Science Department office, 2650 N. Young Ave.

5. Santa's Sack Drive. The Bumpers College Ambassadors are sponsoring a college-wide Santa's Sack Drive to benefit the Peace at Home Shelter. Items to be donated include new children's holiday gifts and new gifts for the children to give to their mothers. They include, but are not limited to: toys, movies, CDs, lotion, perfume, clothing, gloves, hats, scarves or anything you would give a child or your mother for the holidays. The drive will be from Nov. 20- Dec. 1. The department with the most items will receive a pizza party. Boxes will be placed at each department for donation collection.

6. Poultry Judging Team Places 4th. The UA Poultry Judging team placed fourth out of 12 teams at the 41st Annual National Poultry Judging Contest Nov. 6 and 7 hosted by Poultry Science. The Texas A&M University team won first place, followed by Pennsylvania State University, Kansas State University, Arkansas and Louisiana State University. Members of the UA team were Sawyer Hale, Megan Norton, Ashley Reeves and Jada Thompson. Coaches were Dr. Jason Emmert, Poultry Science, and Dennis Mason, Agricultural and Extension Education.
