1. Food Safety Seminar features WalMart VP
Frank Yiannas, vice president of food safety for WalMart, will present a food safety seminar Monday, Oct. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Room D-2 in the Food Science Building. The Division of Agriculture's Center for Food Safety is hosting the seminar.

The Crop, Soil, and Environmental Scienes Fall Seminar Series continues Monday, Oct. 26, at 3:30 p.m. in the Larry Coombes Auditorium, Plant Sciences 009, with two presentations by Chris Rogers, "Role of Fluvial Sediments in Modifying Phosphorus Export from the Illinois River Watershed," and Bodie Drake, "The Effect of Variable Elemental Composition, Temperature, and Light on Periphyton Phosphorus Uptake in Northwest Arkansas Streams."

3. Sigma Alpha chapter wins awards at convention
Four members of the Sigma Alpha Sorority - Iota Chapter, a professional agriculture sorority at the University of Arkansas, attended the National Sigma Alpha Convention Oct. 15-17 in Indianapolis. Holly Wilson, Sarah "Eliese" Freeman, Jade Dabney and Hayley Hogan attended convention workshops and toured local farms. The Iota chapter won the Scrapbook Award, was 3rd in Professional Development, and Chelsey Ahrens won the $750 Collegiate Scholarship.

4. Student-Employer Networking Event - Oct. 26
A panel of leaders from some of the premier companies in Northwest Arkansas will give their advice and tips for any job or internship seeker at a student-employer networking event for all students, Monday, Oct. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Janelle Y. Hembree Alumni House (Corner of Maple St. & Razorback Rd.) Panelists will be representing several local companies including: Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, JB Hunt, and Cameron Smith & Associates. This event is free._Food will be served. Bring extra copies of your resume. Business casual attire is suggested. Earn PDI elective credit by attending this event. 5. Students invited to "Big Event" career planning conference Nov. 3
All students are invited to "The Big Event" Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Arkansas Union 5th Floor. It is a professional development conference on career planning, job search, financial planning, privacy and identity protection, diversity in the workplace, the importance of leadership and how to discover global opportunities. An employer panel will feature the "Spencer twins" -- Jeff & Jerry, former members of the UA swim team. Free food will be provided.
Speakers will include Bruce Castleberry of the Credit Counseling of Arkansas, Kendra Smith with the University of Arkansas Graduate School, Lakisha Harper & Amy Robinson of Walmart Stores, Inc., Jeff Spencer and Amy Stevens of Scotts Miracle-Gro, Jerry Spencer of Walmart Stores, Inc., Andy Matthews with the University Career Development Center, Cedric Kenner of the University Multicultural Center, Sol Bermann with Walmart Stores, Inc., Angela Belford owner of The Belford Group, Uzma Ahmad and Roberto Noensie - spring 2009 graduates, Chris Walton - current MEEG student, Tanya Hammock with Cintas, Emily Ironside of the University of Arkansas Office of International Students and Scholars, Darshaun McAway owner of Dmac Poetry House, Rod Coffman with Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Adrain Smith of the University Center for Leadership & Community Engagement, and Broderick Daniels with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Northwest Edition.
The Big Event is sponsored by the University Career Development Center, which also will provide a "career coach" for student members of the Professional Development Institute.

6. Academic Enhancement workshops scheduled
Bumpers College Academic Enhancement workshops began in September and will continue through October and November. The following workshops are scheduled.All workshops will meet in the Rosen Alternative Pest Control Center ROSE 201 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.

7. AEAB honey and pecan sale underway
The Agribusiness Club's annual Honey & Pecan sale is going on through November 6. Honey, pecan, and House of Webster's products will be sold. Please pick up order forms in AGRI 217 or contact Melinda Dunlap at mdunlap@uark.edu or 575-2256.
