Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. by Kelly Way, chair of the committee.
1) Review and Approval of Minutes from April 2, 2010
Minutes from the April 2, 2010 meeting had been distributed via email to all committee members. Laurie Apple moved that the minutes be accepted, as presented. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the minutes, as presented.
2) Old Business
a) Revision of Curriculum Handbook – Kelly Way stated that she is still requesting revisions for the handbook. Kelly stated that she would make the one revision that was sent to her and would then re-send the handbook to all of the committee members. Cindy Moore made the motion for Kelly Way to make the revision and re-send the handbook to all committee members. Glenda Revelle seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to accept the motion.
3) New Business
a) HRMN
i) HESC 2603 – removal of pre and co requisites -- minor change
Cindy Moore made the motion to accept the change as presented. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. This change would help with transfer students. There was no further discussion. The vote was unanimous to approve the minor change, to remove pre and co requisites. MINOR CHANGE
ii) HESC 3633 – change of course name -- major change
This request will change the course title to Front Office Revenue Management. This change is being submitted for a first reading. Cindy Moore made the motion to accept the change presented for a first reading. Laurie Apple seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the change, as presented, for a 1st reading.
b) DIET
i) PEAC/DEAC – delete from plan of study (2 hrs.), move 2 hrs to electives/major change see program change form – major change
The request is being made to drop the PEAC/DEAC classes from the curriculum. The hours will be moved to the electives portion of the checksheet. Cindy Moore moved to accept this change to the DIET concentration. Glenda Revelle seconded the motion. At this point, the discussion moved to the program plan for DIET. The first discussion involved HESC 2203 (Nutrition for Exercise and Sport). The request is to make this class a mandatory part of the DIET concentration curriculum. Also discussed was the addition of FDSC 2503 (Sanitation and Safety in Food Processing Operations). The area must get an email from Dr. Meullenet stating that he supports the addition of the FDSC 2503 class to the DIET concentration. The discussion then moved to HESC 4264/4260L (Medical Nutrition Therapy I). The request presented is to change the course number to HESC 4263 and delete the lab time from the class. This would change the credit hours for the course from 4 to 3. The last part of the discussion was HESC 4623 (Selection and Layout of Food Service Equipment). This request is to delete the class from the program requirements. This course was previously deleted from the course catalog by the HRMN area, effective Fall 2011). The vote was unanimous to approve the program change, provided that the documentation from Dr. Meullenet is provided, for a 1st reading.
HESC 1201 – change course title – major change
The request was to change the course title to Introduction to the Dietetics Profession. Cindy Moore made the motion to accept the title change for a 1st reading. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the title change, for a 1st reading.
c) APST
i) HESC 2053 – change from 2 hrs lab and 2 hrs lecture to 3 hrs lecture -- minor change
Laurie Apple made the motion to accept the change as presented. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. This request came from Dr. Southward. She has stated that she needs more time for lecture and the swatch kit that the students purchase for class has a CD provided that has experiments that the students can do on their own, outside of class. The vote was unanimous to accept the change as provided. MINOR CHANGE
ii) HESC 3033 – prerequisite change to include MATH 1203 or higher – minor change
Kathy Smith moved to accept the change as presented. Laurie Apple seconded the motion. There was one question from Alice Griffin – will HESC 1013 be kept as a prerequisite? The answer was Yes. The vote was unanimous to accept the change as provided. MINOR CHANGE
iii) HESC 4023 – miscellaneous course information – minor change
The request is to change this course to 2 hrs lecture and 2 hrs lab. This would best accommodate the students in this class. Kathy Smith made the motion to accept this change as presented. Glenda Revelle seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to accept the change as provided. MINOR CHANGE
iv) HESC 4082 – allowing course to be repeated for up to 4 hrs of degree credit – minor change
Kathy Smith moved to accept this change as presented. Laurie Apple seconded the motion. This would allow students to complete two different internships, which would provide the students with the opportunity for broader experiences. The vote was unanimous to accept the change as provided. MINOR CHANGE
v) HESC 4912 – pre or co requisite of HESC 4901—minor change
Laurie Apple moved to accept the change as presented. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to accept the change as provided. MINOR CHANGE
