Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 1:35 p.m. by Laurie Apple, chair of the committee.

1) Review and Approval of Minutes from October 9, 2009
Minutes from the October 9, 2009 meeting had been distributed via email to all committee members. Tim Killian moved that the minutes be accepted, as presented. Kelly Way seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the minutes, as presented.

2) Review and Approve Agenda
Laurie Apple stated that there were amendments to be made to the agenda, which had been distributed via email. These changes were to be placed in IV. New Business, Section C (NUTR). The changes were the addition of HESC 4213/HESC 5213 and HESC 4243/HESC 5243. Nann Miller moved to approve the agenda, with the changes noted. Kelly Way seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the agenda, with the changes noted.

3) Old Business
a) APST
· HESC 4903 – Delete Course Number – This course is no longer needed due to the fact that HESC 4901 (APST Pre-Study Tour) and HESC 4912 (APST Study Tour) are now active classes. Laurie Apple moved to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Tim Killian seconded the motion. There was no discussion regarding the change. All members favored the motion.

b) IDES
· HESC 4805 – Change Description – The request is to add a statement to the description that "personal travel required for research related to specific project type." Nann Miller moved to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. There was no discussion. All members favored the motion.
· HESC 3843 – Change Title – The new title needs to be Lighting and Related Building Systems. Nann Miller moved to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. There was no discussion regarding the change. All members favored the motion.
· Program Change – Change to the check sheet under the art section – addition of ARCH 1003 as an additional option. Nann Miller moved to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. There was no discussion regarding the change. All members favored the motion.

c) HRMN
· HESC 1603 – Change Description – The change in description better fits what the students will receive in the class. This change should help make the students academically stronger and better prepared for future study. Kelly Way moved to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
· HESC 4693 – Change Description – The change in description will include junior standing and hospitality student restriction. It will also include 500 hours of documented HOSP industry experience. Kelly Way made the motion to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. Alice Griffin double checked with the Registrar's office about the wording for the HOSP student designation. The Registrar's office stated that this can be limited to FHNH/HRMN students. All members favored the motion.

d) NUTR
· HESC 3223 – Nutrition Assessment – Add a Course -- Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the proposed change for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
· Additional Course Offerings (COMM 2302, COMM 3303, COMM 3143, COMM 3433, COMM 3703 and COMM 4113) to GFNU and DIET – Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.

4) New Business – All 1st Readings
a) APST
· HESC 1053 – Computer Based Methods – Minor Change – This is a clean-up item. Laurie Apple made the motion to accept the proposed change for a 1st reading. Nann Miller seconded the motion. There was no discussion. All members favored the motion.
· HESC 4023 – Advanced Apparel Merchandising – Minor Change – Addition of HESC 2023 as a pre-req. Laurie Apple made the motion to accept the proposed change for a 1st reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. Laurie Apple noted that this pre-req. addition will help the flow of the class. All members favored the motion.

b) HRMN
· HESC 1601 – Major Change – This change is to delete the class, which would be rolled into HESC 1603. Kelly Way made the motion to accept the proposed change for a 1st reading. Nann Miller seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
· Tim Killian requested that the Program Change be presented before the individual course changes, as this would help facilitate the discussion. Kelly Way made the motion to accept the program change for a 1st reading. Nann Miller seconded the motion. Kelly Way stated that the new call letters for the Hospitality concentration would be HGMT (Hospitality Management). The splitting up of the FHNH program and the HGMT program are important to maintaining the growth of the programs. It will also be helpful in recruiting of the NWACC students, as our curriculum will be more in line with the program there. Other institutions were benchmarked to determine if this would be in the best interest of the students. Alice Griffin stated that there would need to be more detailed work carried out with NWACC to ensure that the transfer work from that institution to the UA was properly handled. It was also noted that the program change would need a CIP code.
· At this point, each of the changes outlined below were discussed, as a part of the program change. No separate motions were necessary, as the changes were incorporated into the program change.
· HESC 2123 – Catering Management – Delete Course
· HESC 2603 – Food Service Purchasing – Change Title/Description
· HESC 2633 – Hotel Operations Management – Change Title/Description
· HESC 2643 – Principles of Tourism – Delete Course
· HESC 3604 – Food Prep for the Hospitality Industry – Change Title/Description
· HESC 3613 – Resort Management – Delete Course
· HESC 3633 – Front Office Management – Change Title/Description
· HESC 4623 – Selection and Layout of Food Service Equipment – Delete Course
· HESC 4643 – Meetings, Events and Convention Management – Change Description
· HESC 4653 – Global Travel and Tourism Management – Change Description
All members favored the motion to accept the program change and all changes noted above for a 1st reading.
c) NUTR
· Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the program change for this area for a 1st reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. This program change was handled using the same approach as the HGMT program change. This program change will affect both the DIET concentration and the GFNU concentration. The new call letters for this program will be FHND. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg stated that the DIET concentration only will add the HESC 3223 – Nutrition Assessment class (which is being proposed as a major change). Both the DIET and GFNU concentrations will delete HESC 4623 – Selection and Layout of Food Service Equipment and HESC 3604 – Food Preparation for the Hospitality Industry. There is a request to add a new class for the DIET and GFNU programs – HESC 3104 – Quantity Food Production, Service and Equipment. This will better service the FHND students.
All members favored the motion to accept the program change and all changes noted above for a 1st reading.

· HESC 4213/5213 – Advanced Nutrition – This will be a change to allow this class to be offered for graduate credit. The combined section status, currently in place, will be removed.
· HESC 4243/5243 – Community Nutrition – This will be a change to allow this class to be offered for graduate credit. The combined section status, currently in place, will be removed.
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg moved to accept the deletion of graduate credit from HESC 4213 and HESC 4243, and the addition of HESC 5213 and HESC 5243 as graduate level classes, which will be taught at the same time for a 1st reading. Tim Killian seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.

d) HDFS
· HESC 2401 – Infant and Toddler Development Laboratory – Delete Course
· HESC 2402 – Infant and Toddler Development – Change Description/Course Number/Change Misc. – The new proposed class number would be HESC 2403. Tim Killian made the motion to accept the changes for a 1st reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
· HESC 4443 – Gerontology – Change existing course level
· HESC 5443 – Add a course – Tim Killian made the motion to accept the changes for a 1st reading. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. This change would remove the dual credit from HESC 4443 and create a new course HESC 5443 for the graduate students. This would help graduate students have a better selection of higher level graduate courses, which are required for degree programs. All members favored the motion.

5) Administrative Reports
Alice Griffin stated that she would be bringing information regarding Act 182 and the challenges of how we will meet the criteria that has been developed to the next meeting, which is scheduled for November 20, 2009.
