Call to Order

Meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Laurie Apple, chair of the committee.

1) Review and Approval of Minutes from November 6, 2009
Minutes from the November 6, 2009 meeting had been distributed via email to all committee members. Mardi Crandall moved that the minutes be accepted, as presented. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the minutes, as presented.

2) Review and Approve Agenda
Laurie Apple stated that there were amendments to be made to the agenda, which had been distributed via email. These changes were to remove the minor changes noted for the APST area, as they do not require a 2nd reading. Also to be added to the agenda is a minor change for HESC 3203. Kelly Way moved to approve the agenda, with the changes noted. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to approve the agenda, with the changes noted.

3) Old Business – All below are for 2nd readings
a) HRMN
• HESC 1601 – Major Change – Delete Course
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 2123 – Catering Management – Delete Course
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 2603 – Food Service Purchasing – Change Title/Description
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 2633 – Hotel Operations Management – Change Title/Description
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 2643 – Principles of Tourism – Delete Course
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 3604 – Food Prep for the Hospitality Industry – Change Title/Description
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 3613 – Resort Management – Delete Course
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 3633 – Front Office Management – Change Title/Description
• Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 4623 – Selection and Layout of Food Service Equipment – Delete Course
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 4643 – Meetings, Events and Convention Management – Change Description
• Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 4653 – Global Travel and Tourism Management – Change Description
Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the above proposed changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.

1) Program Change
a. Kelly Way made the motion to accept the program change for the HRMN area as presented, for a 2nd reading. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. All members favored the motion. There was discussion that Cecilia Thompson would need to be notified regarding the removal of HESC 2123 (Catering Management) as this removal will affect her program as well. The request was made that the packet be checked thoroughly for proper highlights and course change requests. No further action was taken on this item at this time, as this item of business was tabled.
b) NUTR
• HESC 3104 – Quantity Food Production, Service and Equipment – Major Change – Add Class
This course is to be added to both the DIET and GFNU concentrations. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the change. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 3223 – Nutrition Assessment – Major Change – Add Class
This course is to be added to both the DIET concentration only. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the change. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 3203 – Minor Change – Nutrition for Health Professionals and Educators
This is to clean up catalog copy. The pre-req for this class should be HESC 1213 and the pre/co-req should be CHEM 3613/3611L. This should help with the registration problems that were encountered recently for the students. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg made the motion to accept the change. Kathy Smith seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
The program change for the FHNH area was not discussed at this time, per a request from Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg.
c) HDFS
• HESC 2401 – Infant and Toddler Development Laboratory – Delete Course-- 2nd reading
• HESC 2402 – Infant and Toddler Development – Change Description/Course Number/Change Misc. – The new proposed class number would be HESC 2403. Tim Killian made the motion to accept the changes for a 2nd reading. Kelly Way seconded the motion. All members favored the motion.
• HESC 4443 – Gerontology – Change existing course level-- 2nd reading
• HESC 5443 – Add a course – Tim Killian made the motion to accept the changes for a 2nd reading. Marjorie Fitch-Hilgenberg seconded the motion. This change would remove the dual credit from HESC 4443 and create a new course HESC 5443 for the graduate students. This would help graduate students have a better selection of higher level graduate courses, which are required for degree programs. A point of clarification was made for both of these courses – Gerontology is already making these changes, and this is a cross-listed class. All members favored the motion.

4) Administrative Reports
Alice Griffin shared information regarding Act 182 and the challenges of how we will meet the criteria that has been developed. A spreadsheet for each of the areas was distributed with Alice stating the guidelines that should be followed for completion. The spreadsheets are to be returned to Nancy, who will compile the information and return the compilation to Alice.
