MEMBERS PRESENT: Dr. Peggy Whan, Chair; Janet Noble, Tim Killian, Kathy Smith, Marie Gentry and Krystal.
Approval of Minutes
Dr. Killian made the motion that the minutes from November 12, 2004 meeting be approved. Ms. Smith seconded motion. Motion carried.
II. OLD BUSINESS:
Ms. Smith had tabled changes until this meeting. APST is looking at content of all courses therefore changes are withdrawn until later date.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Proposed rotation of classes for distant education master's program:
The proposed rotation of classes was discussed. Dr. Whan asked that each area look at course content and decide what classes could be offered by distant education. Areas most likely able to offer are HDFS, FHNH, APST. IDES may have one class that could be offered. Dr. Gentry will check and report back to committee. Dr. Noble said FHNH would not have anything September. Dr. Whan also requested each area suggest semester schedule along with the rotation.
HRMN – Janet Noble:
Dr. Noble reported that the description would be changed to facilitate work experience and internship. Dr. Noble will also be making personal visits when possible to show appreciation to those facilities offering internships to our students.
Internship will be changed to show that ServSafe certificate must be obtained before taking class. This certificate is vital to the industry.
The new check sheet will have three courses added HESC 2633, 3633, 4633. The check sheet will also delete four courses for WCOB. Once check sheet is ready for review, it will be circulated to committee. The changes will not be done until September due to delay in getting new courses approved.
HRMN is also offering a three-week course in Eureka Springs in Resort Management. This will be a small number of students that will stay in Eureka Springs for the duration of the course. After this trial class it may be added as a permanent course.
