Administration Reports

Bumpers College - Dean Mike Vayda

Dr. Vayda will initiate the strategic planning process through department heads to take back to their respective faculty, and then the department heads will reconvene in December, 2010 to synthesize an action plan, and refine it in spring of 2011. The strategic plan will be considered a living document and will be an instrument to be used for allocating resources, including new faculty hires, and what departments what to achieve. Dr. Vayda encourages parallel discussion from the Faculty Council and stressed the Ag. Curriculum Committee must be involved.

Dr. Vayda will be developing an advisory council with sub-committees consisting of 1) Alumni Society Board, 2) Strategic Directions, and 3) Development and Recruiting. The Faculty Council's involvement will be as a means of communication to their respective faculty.

The Faculty Council Chair has been invited to attend the monthly Dean's Council Business meetings with department heads.

Dr. Vayda listed value added programs 1) distance education, 2) Honors College, and 3) International Programs as extremely valuable instruments to implement and enable our core missions but that they can be a distraction as well.

Division of Agriculture – Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station
