Service Learning:

College Curriculum committees will be involved in deciding if an activity in their College should be classified as service learning.
It is yet to be determined how to handle disagreements between the Campus Service Learning Committee and a College Curriculum Committee.
Differences between service learning, internships, and practicums are still being discussed.
Mike Thomsen moved, Ioannis Tzanetakis seconded a motion to approve the concept. The motion passed on the first reading and will be on the agenda for next month's meeting.
Old business:
The program changes for the three AECT BS concentrations presented at the last meeting were tabled for a second reading until their representative was able to attend. Ed Gbur moved; Ioannis Tzanetakis seconded.
New business:
Courses:
ANSC 3822 Equine Law – Mike Thomsen moved, Doug Karcher seconded a motion to delete the course. The motion passed both first and second readings.
CSES 1833 Soils and Civilization – This would be a new course for non-CSES majors that may be of general interest to students interested in sustainability, AECT students, and non-science majors in other colleges. Committee suggestions included adding water to the title, including as a possible elective in the Sustainability minor, and adding a lab to make it eligible for the University core. Ed Gbur moved; Dave Miller seconded a motion to approve. The motion passed the first reading.
Programs:
AECT minor – The minor would be reduced from 22 to 18 hours with several courses deleted and some replaced by other AGED upper division courses. Ed Gbur moved; Mike Thomsen seconded a motion to approve. The motion passed the first reading.
ANSC Pre-professional science concentration, Equine concentration, BS program – The changes would correct errors in the check sheet lists of discipline related courses that incorrectly had been placed as pre-veterinary science courses. Mike Thomsen moved; Doug Karcher seconded a motion to approve all changes. The motion passed both first and second readings.
POSC certificate program – The program would formalize agreements with U of A Pine Bluff and potentially other institutions to allow their students to attend U of A to take POSC courses for a year and then return to their home university to complete their degree. Since they were non-degree students here, the certificate would be issued for the U of A coursework. Mike Thomsen moved; Ed Gbur seconded a motion to approve the program. The motion passed the first reading.
ESWS BS – The laboratory component of ENSC 4023 (Water Quality) would become a separate one credit course (ENSC 4021L) with ENSC 4023 remaining as a three credit lecture course. The change is needed as a result of a shortage of laboratory space and would allow the lecture course enrollment to grow. The laboratory course would require instructor permission for non-ESWS majors. Mike Thomsen moved; Ed Gbur seconded a motion to approve. The motion passed both first and second readings.
MS in Social Work and PUBP PhD program – Both items were tabled until more information was available. Ed Gbur moved.
STAN 600V – Create a thesis hours course for the new Statistics and Analytics MS program. Ed Gbur moved; Mike Thomsen seconded a motion to approve. The motion passed on the first reading.
Graduate certification program in Public Service at the Clinton School – The program would be deleted because there have never been any students enrolled in the program. Mike Thomsen moved; Ed Gbur seconded a motion to approve deletion. The motion passed both the first and second reading.
Intensive Communication requirement substitution:
SPCH 1321 from Northeast Texas Community College had been approved by U of A Communications Department as a transfer credit (COMM 199T). The request was to allow the course to count toward the College Intensive Communication requirement. Mike Thomsen moved; Doug Karcher seconded a motion to approve. The motion passed.
Informational items:
ENSC 3103 – Change in frequency from every other Fall to every Fall
ENSC 4034 – Change in prerequisites
CSES 462V – Change to instructor permission only
