Communication and interpersonal skills are stressed in each of our 12 majors. Two areas are specifically designed for this career objective.

Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology Major:Bumpers College Agricultural Education, Communication and Technology Student.

Concentrations in AECT provides a background in agriculture and experiential (hands-on) learning in one of the three career paths.

Agricultural Education careers include being a high school agriculture or agriscience teacher, or directing education programs in an agribusiness company or a public service agency such as the Cooperative Extension Service.

Agricultural Systems Technology Management prepare you for careers related to technical operations and management in the broad agricultural industry. The focus is on hands-on problem solving in the development and use of existing and new technology.

Agricultural Communications prepares you to use communication skills and technology for agriculture-related careers in the fields of journalism, corporate communications, public service or education.

School of Human Environmental Sciences Majors:

Our four majors in the School of Human Environmental Sciences prepare you for a variety of careers working with people as consumers, family members and individuals.

1. Apparel Merchandising and Product Development

Apparel Merchandising and Product Development students participate in out of class activities.Apparel Merchandising and Product Development, currently the most popular major in Bumpers College, provides creative and technical training for fashion industry jobs in apparel design, production and marketing. Student internships in fashion industry centers often lead to starting jobs.

2. Human Nutrition and Hospitality InnovationBumpers College Hospitality students get hands on experience in local kitchens and hotels.

The HNHIBS major offers three career paths of Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Dietetics and Foods and Human Nutrition. The HRM option includes classes and labs in the Inn at Carnall Hall on the U of A campus and leads to careers in the hospitality industry. Dietetics students prepare for an internship that leads to careers in health care as a Registered Dietitian. FHN career fields include areas such as sports nutrition, exercise science, journalism, business, health care and others.

Bumpers College student observes a preschool class in the Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center.The HDFSBS major can be focused on early childhood or a lifespan concentration.

Both lead to diverse and rewarding careers in the "helping professions" and business, especially service industries that require understanding how people interact.

4. General Human Environmental Sciences Bumpers College Human Environmental Sciences student gets one-on-one help from professors.
