Dillard keynotes apparel studies symposium
Students in the apparel studies program in the School of Human Environmental Sciences had the opportunity on Oct. 9 to join representatives of apparel retailing industries in the program's inaugural symposium on campus. The theme of the conference, "The Business of Fashion in the Global Economy: It's Not Business as Usual," covered merchandising, design and product development knowledge. William Dillard III, vice president of Dillard's, Inc., was the keynote speaker. Additional speakers included Mercedes Gonzalez, director of Global Purchasing Companies; Rick Helfenbein, president of Luen Thai Holdings Limited USA operations, and Kathryn Miller, senior brand manager for Mainstays at Walmart. Carolyn Long of SweetTeeMedia and Communications served as moderator.
