Children from throughout Northwest Arkansas were among the nearly 4,000 people who attended the 13th Insect Festival of Arkansas, an annual one-day event in October organized by Professor Don Steinkraus of the Entomology Department. The activities at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center included an insect zoo and an insect theater, as seen in this photo with Susan Post of the Illinois Natural History Survey performing a honey bee dance on a floor painted to resemble a honey comb. The festival uses a variety of games, theater, crafts and science to educate the children about the world of insects.
