School of Human Environmental Sciences Majors

Our five majors in the School of Human Environmental Sciences will prepare you for a variety of careers working with people as consumers, family members and individuals.

1. Apparel Studies

Apparel Studies CareersApparel Studies, currently the most popular major in Bumpers College, provides creative and technical training for fashion industry jobs in apparel design, production and marketing. Student internships in fashion industry centers often lead to starting jobs

2. Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Management

HDFS careersThe FHNHBS major offers three career paths of Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Dietetics and Foods and Human Nutrition. The HRM option includes classes and labs in The Inn at Carnall Hall on the UA campus and leads to careers in the hospitality industry. Dietetics students prepare for an internship that leads to careers in health care as a Registered Dietitian. FHN career fields include areas such as sports nutrition, exercise science, journalism, business, health care and others.

HDFS careersThe HDFSBS major can be focused on early childhood or a lifespan concentration.

4 .Interior Design

ID careersFor IDESBD rmajors, the emphasis is on “design” as a creative, problem solving skill based on knowledge and understanding of materials and processes for creating environments that meet diverse human needs and desires. Student internships often lead to great starting jobs.

Designers can pursue careers in contract design or might specialize to apply design-related skills in a particular area of interest.

5. General Human Environmental Sciences

The HESCBS major includes courses from the other HESC majors and electives to personalize your degree. Career opportunities include teaching Family and Consumer Sciences after completing a one-year Master of Arts in Teaching program.
